Live concerts in December! Plus some triple concerto updates involving faeries
‘Tis the season for gratitude - and we in Delphi Trio have so much to be thankful for! First and foremost, we are grateful to you, our community, for sticking with us during this difficult time.
We are beyond thrilled to be able to say that we are playing two live, public concerts in December.
We’ve spent so much time rehearsing and recording together these past 20 months that it’s hard to believe these will be our first in-person public concerts as a trio since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Technology can do amazing things, but we now know for certain that there truly is no substitute for live performance. We are so looking forward to sharing music again with you all.
And of course, we are grateful for the incredible music we get to play. What better way to reconnect than with Beethoven’s “Archduke” Trio, one of the most moving and epic journeys in the repertoire?
We’ve also fallen head over heels for two kaleidoscopic pieces by Lili Boulanger (D’un soir triste and D’un matin de printemps) and the rarely played, exquisite Fantasy Pieces, Op. 88 for piano trio by Robert Schumann.
This program is colorful and exploratory, but is also well-grounded in beloved masterworks. We hope you’ll be able to join us for one of the performances!
This spring, we’re particularly looking forward to performing the long-awaited premiere of Clarice Assad’s new triple concerto, a commissioning project that was conceived way back in 2019.
We’ll be performing it alongside Beethoven’s Triple Concerto with the San Jose Chamber Orchestra in March. The piece has developed in some unexpected and exciting ways - more on that below!
Music has been our lifeline through the last 20 months. So many things have changed in the world, but being able to share spiritual connection through music feels just as important or perhaps even more crucial than ever.
We hope that you will join us in the concert hall. Wherever you are at and however you feel, we welcome you.

The Tale of Mélusin
A New Triple Concerto
UPDATE: CONGRATS TO CLARICE ASSAD FOR HER RECENT GRAMMY NOMINATION! Check out her album here.
Delphi originally commissioned the wonderful composer Clarice Assad in 2019 to write a 21st century response to Beethoven’s famously joyous Triple Concerto. The COVID-19 pandemic wasn’t on board with that plan, so almost three years later, we will finally get to premiere the piece!
Clarice tells us that the concerto, tentatively titled The Tale of Mélusin, will follow the medieval French legend of a half-fairy woman betrayed by her mortal husband.
We can’t wait to premiere The Tale of Mélusin alongside Beethoven’s Triple Concerto with the San Jose Chamber Orchestra on March 20, 2022. Learn more here.
We are raising funds to complete this commission and launch it into the world. If you are able to make a tax-deductible donation this giving season, we would be tremendously grateful.
We look forward to sharing this new music with you in March!
